Protected fat and variable level of protein in diets of crossbreed cows in early lactation Animal Sciences
Souza Júnior, Alcy Heleno de; Lana, Rogério de Paula; Teixeira, César Roberto Viana; Gionbelli, Mateus Pies; Veloso, Cristina Mattos; Rennó, Luciana Navajas.
Current study evaluated the inclusion of protected fat and different levels of crude protein (CP) in the diet of crossbreed cows in early lactation. Twelve cows were distributed in a 4 x 4 factorial design, with four treatments (12 or 16% CP, with or without MEGALAC-E®). Statistical analyzes with ANOVA and Pearson’s linear correlation procedures were performed. Protected fat did not affect intake of dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) (p > 0.05). Increased CP raised consumption of CP and EE and decreased the non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC; p <0.05). Protected fat increased (p <0.05) the digestibility of DM, OM, CP and ashes in the lower protein content. CP increase raised the level of blood and urinary urea (p < 0.05). There was no difference...

Relationship between temperament with performance and meat quality of feedlot steers with predominantly Charolais or Nellore breed R. Bras. Zootec.
Silveira,Isabella Dias Barbosa; Fischer,Vivian; Farinatti,Luis Henrique Ebling; Restle,João; Alves Filho,Dari Celestino; Menezes,Luís Fernando Glasenapp de.
The relation between temperament with performance and meat quality was determined in 79 Charolais × Nellore steers kept in feedlot. Temperament was evaluated according to exit velocity, scale composite score and flight distance four times in the finishing phase, along with body weight, intake and feed conversion measures. Cattle were classified as calm, intermediate and excited according to exit velocity measures at the beginning of the trial. Excited cattle presented larger values for composite score and flight distance. Irrespective of genotype, excited cattle presented lower average daily gain, dry matter intake and worse feed conversion. Temperament categories did not affect most of beef quality traits, except for calm Bos indicus steers, which...

Reproductive behavior of crossbred dairy cows grazing an intensive silvopastoral system under tropical dry forest conditions Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Sierra-Montoya,E.; Barahona-Rosales,R.; Ruiz-Cortés,Z.T..
ABSTRACT It is widely accepted that selection for high milk yield in dairy cows has negatively affected their reproductive performance. After calving, dairy cows experience a nutritional imbalance due to an asynchrony in the occurrence of the lactation and dry matter intake peaks. In the tropics, this situation is exacerbated due to poor quality and/ or availability of the diet. A study was carried out to describe the nutritional and reproductive behavior of two-to-four parturition crossbred cows (Gyr (Bos indicus) x Holstein (Bos taurus)) divided in two groups according to their calving to first service interval (CFSI): Group 1: ≤50 days CFSI, n=7; Group 2: ≥50 days CFSI, n=8. Animals were grazing in an intensive silvopastoral system (ISS) based on...

Selectivity and feeding behavior of Saanen goats subjected to three nutritional levels R. Bras. Zootec.
Gomes,Helen Fernanda Barros; Souza,Samuel Figueiredo de; Oliveira,Daiana de; Biagioli,Bruno; Teixeira,Izabelle Auxiliadora Molina de Almeida; Resende,Kleber Tomás de.
ABSTRACT This study was conducted to investigate the effect of selective feeding habits on the quality of the ingested diet and the effect of feed restriction on the selectivity and behavior of goats in feedlots. Differences were found only in the amount of feed given to the animals, with a difference in the amount of feed rejected as a function of the nutritional level. Higher levels of orts were measured for those animals that received the ad libitum diet. For the composition of orts, differences were measured only in the ether extract fraction. Animals fed the ad libitum diet increased their intake of ether extract and energy, crude fiber, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber. Thus, they had a preference for consuming the fibrous and...

Settlement performance evaluation of longitudinal settling basins - A case study on Golfaraj and Iry-Siah Rud pump stations, Iran CIGR Journal
Mahtabi, Ghorban; Hoseinzadeh Dalir, Ali; Fazelifard, Mohamad Hasan.
One of the most important elements of river intake is settling basins for water sediment removal. Settling basins play an important role in supplying appropriate water for irrigation networks and power plants. Therefore, it is necessary to design them carefully based on the local conditions. Our objectives were to determine the properties of sediments entering into the intake systems of two pump stations (Golfaraj and Iry-Siah Rud) by sampling the water suspended load in different points of the systems and to investigate the performance of settling basins in Iran. The suspended load samples were taken from sections before and after the settling basins at three depths of 0.2 y, 0.6 y, and 0.8 y (y is the depth of the cross section from the water surface)....
